TEACHING SPEAKING
 Sometimes teaching speaking is very controversial considering the “shame” point , even for us English students sometimes is complicated , so we need to be aware about the points that could interfere in this process , As every other skill we need to follow an structure to teach this one but unlike the other skills when we follow pre , while and post , this time we work with a pre communicative stage , a practice stage and a communicative interaction stage to develop the activities.

To improve this skill we can use , debates , discussions , interviews , radio programs etc. that as you can see are very attractive activities to develop in class , something that important, to break the shame point as I said before , because if we use these activities our students practice with activities that they use to practice his/her first language but using the second language so in that way they are more familiarized with is learning process and is more easy to achieve the goals .

 And the last point that I want to consider is the importance of teaching communicative skills because teaching them this subject , we can give them the necessary tools to fulfill the goals of the speaking skill.

 When we teach writing we need to consider points like , Rhetorical situation (audience, purpose, topic),Context,Text type,Author,Reader,Sources,Tell knowledge,Transform knowledge,Stages: planninig, texting, proofreading, editing , just like when we are developing the other skills these are very important points . Sometimes teach this skill could be very mechanic specially when we teach , tense structures , and verbal times but we need to be aware about all the techniques that we can use to change this I mean , this process could be very attractive if we use the proper techniques like games for example which are very attractive for every type of students .

Other important point just like in the other skills , we need to consider attractive themes to practice writing for example , if we want to teach how to write an essay we must choose attractive themes to develop so in that way our student could be more engage with the exercise and the content .

 When we think in teaching listening we need to consider several point to do of this skill a successful one , we need to know that listening is not just the act of hear something ,this exercise must be meaningful, must be present a huge quote of comprehension and our students must be aware about how useful is this , because when we teach listening we can teach several subjects like , vocabulary , pronunciation , structure of sentences, etc. An one of the most important points for me is that we can use attractive devices to teach this skill , like music , videos , language games so in that way student learn in a unconscious way , because they learn having a great time . Of course that the used inputs must be according to the age for our students .

Teaching Reading

Teaching Reading Taking in count the other three skills Reading could be one of the most difficult subject to teach considering that for these days children even read in Spanish is complicated , so when we teach this one we need to consider every known strategy to fulfill the goals . First of all I think that we need to consider the type of text that we are teaching which in the best of cases must be an attractive theme, so in that way we can engage the content in an attractive or interests way for every student , we need to present attractive texts depending of the age of our students I mean is impossible to think that what could be attractive for a 4th grade student will be attractive for an 8th student so we need to be conscious about the type of students . Other point to consider is respect the order of our lesson plan , we must to apply the content step by step respecting pre, while and post activities each one of these with an specific activity to give them (students) the necessary tools to achieve goals Also we can’t forget the strategy of skimming and scanning which for teach this skill is very important because we cant provide ours student an amazing technique to achieve the most important goal which is COMPREHENSION .

* Read the introduction or the first paragraph.
 * Read the first sentence of every other paragraph.
 * Read any headings and sub-headings.
*Notice any pictures, charts, or graphs.
* Notice any italicized or boldface words or phrases.
 * Read the summary or last paragraph.

 How to Scan:
* State the specific information you are looking for.
* Try to anticipate how the answer will appear and what clues you might use to help you locate the answer. For example, if you were looking for a certain date, you would quickly read the paragraph looking only for numbers.
 * Use headings and any other aids that will help you identify which sections might contain the information you are looking for.
* Selectively read and skip through sections of the passage.

metacognition ( first activity)



Possible ways to foster Metacognition

- Activate the previous knowledge of ours students, uniting the content

- Telling to our students what they are going to learn ( explaining the goals

- students must to participate, on that way we are generating critical thinking

- They must know , what they know and what don’t .

- They have to know their own strengths and weaknesses

What is automaticity ?

- Is when we have the ability to have an automatic response and we can develop this concept with repetition exercises and a lot of practice of our learning .

Cognitive load

- Is an excessive use of the memory , it happens when we push to the students to memorize to many things .

Create an example of how teachers can change the amount of “extraneous cognitive load” on an assignment.

- Using more didactic activities with attractive visuals ,maybe handmade or in a power point presentation, improving the students knowledge.

When have you felt that you had a "full" cognitive load?
When I have to learn lots of concepts . I think that, when I have to do that I push my brain to memorize .

coursebook analysis


• We agree that the objectives are in the introduction and they are also present at the beginning of each unit.
• The approach is acceptable to the target community because it deals with topics from Chile.
• The layout is average, but the print is too small and it tends to confuse the student.
• The book has a lot of pictures and it helps the students understand better.
• The topics and tasks are interesting, but they aren’t varied, they’re the same for everyone.
• The instructions are very clear, the students don’t have difficulties understanding them.
• We think the content is presented gradually, in context that students have a more systematic learning in level of difficulty.
which is very good, because they learn from the most basic, to then get to learn the hardest part.
• we think that in the next four points, meets expectations, but we think that in these, much depends on the management of the teacher, if we talk about, explanations, vocabulary, grammar, we believe that teacher's task is to see how significant those contained in the practice, with appropriate teaching methods
• when it comes to developing the four skills, do not assign the greatest credit to this book, because it only works with two of the four skills, which is very wrong because as future teachers we would like to work with material that allows us to develop our work to the top. so on that way ,our students have access to the best.
• we think that this type of text does not allow students to independent learning because it focuses more on how the teacher presents the content , and how the teacher directs it.
• in our opinion we think it makes too much guidance for the teacher. even, we cant find examples of Activities for each item presented in the book.
• yes , the book has an audio cd
• not easy to get.
in schools that depend on the municipalities have access.
But for schools that do not belong to municipalities, means a significant monetary expense,

as a personal reflexion of this activity , i have to say that, my mistake or our mistake as a group was that we tried to do  many thing so many activities for just one class , but this presentation was very useful to understand that we have to be more realistic about how we applied the content .

Practicum Reflection


first of all my practicum was a very good experience, for being the first time that i was in a class room , i mean as a teacher or future teacher , was an incredible experience.

I was in a public school named " Humberto Vilches" located in 11 north,liberty street. I was working with a 7 grade with 36 or 40 students .

the course in general had a low level of english but they were very  enthusiastic in his teaching proccess , they participated a lot during the classes.

i had a full support of the teacher during this proccess , i learn lots of thing of her classes , I really like her class  management, how she applied the content , i mean i didn't know nothing about teaching methods at then , so i think that i learn a lot without knowing what important thing i was learning .

also what i learn the most , and i think that was very important point , was that i learn a lot about  the school administation , because i think that we as future teacher we need a full support of the school and in this case the school   they have this principle very present in his daily  practicum .
